Monitoring during the heating season – HeatSens solutions for the heating industry

Autumn and the first frosts – the beginning of the most demanding period

When the outside temperature begins to drop rapidly and the first frosts remind us of the approaching winter, the heating industry enters a period of intense activity. The heating season means not only increased demand for heat, but also challenges related to maintaining the stability and safety of the network.

Every parameter – from temperature to flow to pressure – is important for the reliability of the system. Even minor deviations can quickly translate into heat loss, equipment failure or a decline in customer comfort. That is why effective monitoring and the ability to respond quickly are crucial – they allow you to react before problems turn into serious failures.

In response to these challenges, we have developed a series of HeatSens devices that support operators in monitoring, analysing and optimising the operation of heating networks – from local nodes to distributed facilities throughout the network.

HeatSens solutions – three modules, one approach

MT-156 HMI HeatSens CODESYS® – local control and monitoring centre

MT-156 HMI HeatSens – local control and monitoring centre

MT-156 is a programmable telemetry controller with CODESYS® support, which combines the functions of a PLC, data logger and protocol converter.

The device enables:

  • support for a wide range of signals: PT1000 inputs, analogue, binary, RS-232/485 interfaces, Ethernet, M-Bus, 1-Wire,
  • parameter preview and diagnostics without additional devices, thanks to the built-in OLED display,
  • data logging with 1-second accuracy and SD card recording, allowing analysis of the node’s operating history,
  • remote configuration and updating, minimising the need for service visits,
  • secure and redundant data transmission, thanks to LTE Cat M1 / NB-IoT and Dual-SIM support.

Practical application: MT-156 is ideal for use in heat distribution nodes, chambers and local switchboards, where the operator needs quick access to data and the ability to immediately adjust settings.

MT-570 HeatSens – data concentrator for entire facilities

MT-570 is a module designed for the integration of devices and sensors in larger facilities, creating a central data hub.

Its features include:

  • support for numerous binary, analogue and PT1000 inputs, allowing data to be collected from various sources,
  • automatic notification when thresholds are exceeded or states change – intelligent alerting,
  • remote configuration and software updates, which save time and service costs,
  • redundant communication thanks to Dual-SIM and support for LTE Cat M1 / NB-IoT.

Practical application:
MT-570 centralises information from multiple measuring points, enables quick response to anomalies and supports operators’ decisions, while simplifying data integration throughout the facility.

MT-058 HeatSens – monitoring without power supply

MT-058 is a module designed to work in places where there is no permanent power source.

It features:

  • battery power providing up to 5 years of operation (with an optional battery, up to 10 years).
  • built-in NB-IoT / LTE Cat M1 modem, ensuring low power consumption and reliable communication.
  • resistance to harsh conditions (IP68), enabling operation in the field.
  • support for temperature sensors, binary and analogue inputs, and data reading from heat meters,
  • event and data logging even in the event of temporary transmission interruptions.

Practical application:
MT-058 allows monitoring of hard-to-reach points in the transmission network and dispersed facilities without the need to build additional power infrastructure.

DataPortal and SIM cards – full background support

HeatSens modules work with the DataPortal platform, which enables:

  • convenient access to data from the entire network – animated screens, reports, summaries.
  • real-time alarm notifications (SMS/e-mail),
  • connection control thanks to telemetry SIM cards with a private APN and a fixed IP address, ensuring stable and secure transmission.

This working environment allows operators to make decisions in real time and respond more quickly to irregularities.

Q&A – frequently asked questions - HeatSens

Will the devices work in low temperatures?

Yes – HeatSens modules are designed to operate in a wide range of industrial conditions.

How long does the MT-058 run on battery power?

Up to 5 years as standard, with an optional battery lasting up to 10 years. The extension of the operating time depends on the measurement and data transmission interval.

What happens in the event of a GSM connection failure?

The MT-156 and MT-570 support Dual-SIM, which allows automatic switching to a second operator. All modules have non-volatile memory, which allows measurements to be stored even during transmission problems.

Can the module settings be changed remotely?

Yes – all HeatSens models feature remote configuration and updating, which reduces the need for service visits.

Does the system integrate with existing SCADA infrastructure?

The modules communicate using the manufacturer’s UDP-based protocol, and we have developed a free MT Data Provider driver to support it, enabling quick and easy connection to popular SCADA systems. In addition, the MT-156 HMI and MT-570 support Modbus TCP, allowing integration with master systems using this standard.
